Aerobic septic system repair starts with a sign that a part has quit. The alarm on the control panel sounds, or the air pump by the tanks goes quiet. A spray head may stick and leave a soggy patch in the yard. Eastern Oklahoma Septic Services finds the failed part on site and replaces it.

Start at the control panel. An alarm there is the state-required warning that the pump tank has passed half full. Then listen near the tanks for the air pump. Oklahoma State University (OSU) Extension says you should hear it running, forcing air into the aeration tank.
OSU says a rotten egg smell can mean the system is not working properly. Cloudy water in the pump tank is a sign too, because state rules expect that water to run clear. Sewage backing up into the house calls for our emergency septic service.
In the yard, watch the spray heads. A head that sticks or mists needs a look, and so does soggy ground where the heads throw water. State rules time the spray for between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. Daylight spraying, day after day, points to the timer, a float or heavy water use.
An aerobic system has more moving parts than a conventional tank, and they wear out. The air pump, or septic aerator, pushes air through diffusers in the aeration tank. When the pump fails or a diffuser wears out, the bacteria lose the air they need.
In the pump tank, a stuck float or a worn spray pump lets the water rise until the alarm sounds. The state's homeowner guide says a professional should replace a failed pump with one of the proper size. The disinfection unit treats the water before it sprays. With chlorine, state rules want 0.2 milligrams per liter kept in the pump tank.
Lids and risers wear out too. State rules call for every serviceable part to be reachable within 24 inches of the ground. The crew tracks down the cause on site and sets the new part where the old one sat. The rules count that as a repair, inspected and approved before the hole is backfilled.
Sometimes the aerobic unit itself is past saving, and the job stops being a repair. The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) treats a replacement aerobic treatment unit as a new installation. That holds even when the old septic tank stays in place. A new installation needs a DEQ Authorization to Construct and an inspection before the system runs.
Check the install date before you call anyone. For two years after a new aerobic system goes in, state rules make its installer maintain it. That upkeep covers broken parts, so a system inside that window goes back to its installer first. Damage caused only by the owner is left out, such as heads broken by careless use.
After the two years, upkeep is the owner's job, done alone or by a hired company. We take on that work for any aerobic system with spray heads. Bought a newer home around Broken Arrow, Owasso or Collinsville? Ask the seller who installed the system and when it went in.
