Emergency Septic Service in Sapulpa, OK

Emergency Septic · Sapulpa, OK

When sewage backs up or the alarm sounds

Emergency septic service is for problems that cannot wait until Monday. Sewage is backing up into the tub, or the septic alarm will not stop. We take these calls in Sapulpa and the Tulsa area, on weekends and after hours whenever we can. Call or text (918) 645-0557 and tell us what you see.

Eastern Oklahoma Septic Services works on conventional and aerobic systems, and the crew finds the cause on site. An emergency call gets the same septic system repair and septic tank pumping as any other job. If the tank is full, we pump it and check the tank and baffles while it is open. Then we tell you what failed and what the fix is.

  • Sewage surfacing in the yard over the tank or the lateral lines

  • Full tanks pumped and cleaned on an urgent call

What to do while you wait for emergency septic service

Stop running water first. The EPA says to take pressure off the system by using it less. Hold off on laundry and dishes, and flush only when you must. A running toilet can add up to 200 gallons a day, the EPA says, so shut its valve.

Keep people and pets away from any sewage in the house or the yard. For cleanup inside, the EPA advises long rubber gloves and a face splash shield. It also advises a disinfecting mix of 90 percent water and 10 percent household bleach.

Leave the tank lid closed. The EPA says only trained specialists should clean or repair a septic tank, because tanks may hold dangerous gases. On an aerobic system, stay clear of the electrical parts if water has reached them. Keep cars and mowers off the wet ground, too.

Why is my aerobic septic alarm going off?

Oklahoma's septic rules require a high-water alarm on the pump tank of an aerobic system with spray heads. It is set to sound when that tank gets more than half full. The rules also call for a float that keeps the tank under half full. So an alarm means water is coming in faster than the pump sends it out.

A pump that quit can cause it, and the spray heads are another place to look. Oklahoma State University's extension service calls faulty spray heads a common problem. When the alarm sounds, its advice is to call your service provider and cut back on water. It also says not to try to repair the system yourself.

We find why the water is building up and repair or replace the part that failed. Our recurring aerobic septic system maintenance visits check the pump and the spray heads.

Why do septic backups follow heavy rain in the Tulsa area?

Late spring is the wettest stretch of the year here. NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals put yearly rain at Tulsa International Airport near 41 inches. May is the wettest month, at about 5.7 inches.

Lateral lines, the Oklahoma name for the drain field, let water from the tank soak into the soil. When that soil is already soaked, it has little room for more. The EPA warns that a high water table raises the risk of sewage backing up into the home.

Point roof drains and sump pump lines away from the lateral lines, as the EPA advises. If wet spots and a sewage smell stay after the ground dries out, look past the rain. The EPA calls soft, wet ground over the field in dry weather a good sign of failure. That calls for a look at the lines and possibly lateral line repair.

FAQ

Emergency Septic Questions, Answered

Common questions about emergency septic around Sapulpa and the Tulsa area. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (918) 645-0557

Do you take emergency septic calls on weekends?
Yes. We take emergency calls on weekends and after hours, whenever we can get to the phone. The towns we serve sit within about 40 miles of Sapulpa. Call or text (918) 645-0557, and if we miss the call, text what you see.
Why does my septic system back up when we have guests?
A full house sends more water through the system than it is used to. Oklahoma State University's extension service notes that guests can double a home's daily water use. Spread out the laundry and the dishwasher instead of running them together. After a trip, a dozen loads of laundry on the first day home can wash out an aerobic system's bacteria.
Should I have the septic tank pumped while the yard is flooded?
Not while the ground is soaked. The EPA says pumping a tank in saturated soil can make it pop out of the ground. Newer systems pop out more readily, the EPA adds, because the soil around them has not settled. Use as little water as you can until the ground drains, then call us to pump and check the tank.
Is sewage in the yard dangerous?
The EPA says to avoid contact with sewage, because it may carry harmful germs. Oklahoma's septic rules say sewage should not surface or pool on the ground. When a system fails, the rules call for prompt repair. So a wet, smelly spot over the lateral lines is a reason to call.
Is a slow drain a septic problem or a job for a plumber?
It can be either one. A clog inside the house's own pipes is a plumber's job. The EPA lists slow drains and gurgling pipes among the signs of a failing septic system. We find the problem on site and tell you which one it is.
What does emergency septic service cost?
The price depends on what failed and what it takes to fix it. A full tank that needs pumping is a different job from a pump or a lateral line that needs replacing. The type of system and how easy the tank is to reach matter too. We look at the job and put the quote in writing.
